Canton Cup 2009 Race Report

The 2009 Canton Cup was a TEAM event!

Special thanks to the support crew for the cheering, getting the tent setup, hanging out all day and just being totally awesome. Dan, Shane, Miller, Curt, Randall*, you guys rock. Seeing you guys each lap (thresholders everywhere!) made my race. Danimal and Dr. Gorilla-Shane got the tent going. Pedo-Bear Miller handed out free candy to racers and kids. Curt held my stuff and cheered like mad! Randall was hung over and wore dark glasses. He didn’t like the light or loud noises.

In the fours, Randall quickly took last place with his hung over DNS. As awesome as it was to see him cheering (somewhere around lap 3), it would have been so much better to see him race hungover. Devo got out to a good start and nailed his second CX race for 7th! BB played the mechanical game on the first lap, but powered back to take 19th! K-berry and I got all our crashing done on the warmup laps. Ken rode
a solid race and closed HARD on the last lap, giving me a front row to him passing dudes left and right, to take 28th. I came in shortly after in 33rd, after having a great start and racing fast. There were 110 finishers, maybe 125 starters? Awesome results!

Cory’s Dad, Howie, raced masters. Check out the style on this guy! Must run in the family.

BB was a gluten for punishment and signed up for the 3/4 race. He rode like a hard man, suffered and finished real strong. Cory attempted a new cornering technique (using his face) on the first lap, putting him in last coming into the small barriers. It wasn’t until a few laps in that we noticed the scraped up mug. As the race continued, Cory put down one of the most amazing comebacks I’ve ever seen. Passing
dudes that had no business being ahead of him and finishing 16th!

The best part of the day was the Threshold Big House Tent! Thanks to Dan for making that happen (and for the hot cider!) (and the pictures and the video!)

Let me leave you with this sweet video action …
