As GMSR is on the schedule, I’m starting to really get focused on training in 3 day blocks, emphasizing recovery between workouts and making sure that 2 of the 3 days have some serious intensity thrown in while still adressing endurance, LT boosting and a bit of climbing/vo2 max work.
I’ve done 4 blocks this way so far, but none have been super tough, as I’m still trying to avoid that early peak and keep overall training stress (physical, mental, emotional…) pretty low and overall motivation/fun high.
So far so good, recovery’s been good, bike fit is tight and fun is still happening!
This weekend I killed myself Sunday at wells and did some JRA on either end of it for a solid 3.25 hours in the saddle. A tough day, no doubt.
Today I did a solid hour of tempo (no power data, but averaged 23mph for the dover 19, so decent work there) in the morning.
Tomorrow I’ll hope to get 2-3 hours in with some hill work, but raing may push my WO to wednesday. Not ideal for my training plan, but again, is 3 hours in the rain really worth it to me?
then I’ll shut it down until friday AM when I’ll open the legs for Hilltowns, eat like a boss and sleep well.
Saturday is Hilltowns, an obviously tough day. and Sunday is Norwell marking another serious block completed.
A super busy week at work means that I’ll be prioritizing sleep and leg-up time at home and generally being a cycling-hobbit for a few days this week.
All this training means good eattin, though!!!
Legs feeling strong, mind is right and the bike is my friend.
peace,
-L
