Mt. Greylock training ride

Two years of waiting. Over $23 million dollars invested. Totally worth it!

I had the distinct pleasure of riding up Mt. Greylock this past Saturday. It is truly one of the most spectacular climbs in the northeast, now unequaled in the quality of the pavement and the complete lack of cars. I celebrated Father’s day a day early with my pop, by dropping him 0.25 miles into the climb (sorry pop!) for a 35 minute LT interval. This climb is amazing…steep switchbacks hitting over 22% at the steepest, long swatches of 16-20 mph hauling, and a stiff finishing section after the final left hand turn that takes you to the top. For anyone training for GMSR, we should DEFINITELY take a trip out there. Combine that with the climb over Petersburg Pass, the climb up Rt 43 out of Stephentown, NY and some dirt-road switchbacks on Alps Mountain Road, and well have some good climbing on the legs.

I’ve posted my elevation profile of riding to the mountain and back down. The park entrance marks the start of the climb, but you are gaining elevation once you turn off Rt. 2.

My family has been vacationing in Lenox for the last couple of years. I have only ridden Greylock while it was under construction. Rough pavement, gravel and dirt.
I can’t wait to see what it is like freshly paved.
