Charlie Baker Time Trial
Muscle aches, high body temperature, sweating, runny nose, confusion. Swine flu? Nah! Way more fun! The Charlie Baker Time Trial! In preparation for the ITT at CTSR and the Owasco stage Race, I started my real time trial work this week. New aero helmet, modified TT position and a faux-disk wheel. New pavement on a portion of the course, low winds and a perfect temperature in the low 60’s. I had the #9 start, and barely made it to the start line in time. I knew I had a few stud cat 3’s from Cambridge Bike starting behind me. Even though they were riding it commando (non-aero) I was NOT interested in getting caught! 9.75 miles & 22:41 later (26 mph ave.), I was done. 16 seconds slower than my fastest time last year (22:25). Given that it followed a tough 100 mi weekend of racing, and was the first real effort on the TT rig, not too bad. I ended up 6/42*, with a few guys from MetLife, a former NE TT champ, and a podium finisher at USA MTB Nationals ahead of me (far ahead…40’s to 1:20). Hopefully I’ll get it down by late May…we’ll see! Either way, it was a hoot! Thanks to NEBC for a great event…and Concord too.
*this is pretty much a meaningless figure as many folks at this are recreational or really old.

Nice work! How’d the wheel cover feel? Fast? Like a gimmick?
