Race Recap: Spooky Cross!

More like freezing cross! I hadn’t originally planned on doing this race, given that it is an hour and 45 minutes from Boston. But, it was part of a 3-race points series, and I was in the top 10, so I figured, WTF? My wife was working and it beats the 30 min LT interval that I had planned. Short story: thought we were getting staged by points…we weren’t! So, instead of showing up 5 minutes before the start and waltzing into the front row, I rolled up and slinked into the last row. I’d use that as an excuse for my crummy finish, but Dave Wilcox (CB, who is SO FAST!!!) was lined up next to me. He finished 2nd. I did not. The course was great…lots of rocket-fast singletrack and fire roads, a few tricky descents/runups, a big sand pit and uphill barriers. Not sure of my exact finish, but I am guessing ~15/18. Despite the lopsided race: drive ratio (1:5), 25 degree weather, frozen course, loss of skin on my left knee, and one of the poorest performances of the season, IT WAS TOTALLY AWESOME! I will definitely be back next year…hopefully with some teammates to keep me company! Thanks to Mike Norton and co. at Cyclonaut’s for another stellar race.
